After a 2-2 draw with Pumas UNAM in the first leg of the Concacaf Champions League final on April 27, the Sounders returned to Lumen Field on Wednesday, May 4, to host what would become an emotional and historic final. Jill Peck captured it all, from tifo deployment to post match celebrations, and everything in between.

Despite losing two players to injury early in the first half (Nouhou Tolo in the 11′, Joao Paulo in the 29′), two goals by Raul Ruidiaz (45′, 80′) and a third by Nicolas Lodeiro (88′) put Seattle up 3-0, 5-2 on aggregate. Goalkeeper Stefan Frei saved Pumas’ only shot on goal with the flourish that earned him the CCL’s Best Goalkeeper award. He also became the first goalkeeper to earn the Best Player award. Frei, Ruidiaz, Lodeiro, and four other Sounders were named to the Best XI. Pumas’ forward Juan Dinenno was Best Young Player and named to the Best XI, as were defenders Arturo Ortiz and Alan Mozo.
